While chickens have been domesticated for centuries, the chickens we know today are not the same ones that used to roam the world in days of old.
Throughout the centuries, man has realized his delight in chickens. We’ve grown fond of them for eggs and entertainment. Kings and paupers have always had access to chickens and eggs but the chickens we know of today are not the same as the ones from hundreds or thousands of years ago. The chickens of today are products of cross breeding and very few of the original blood lines remain in the world. At Wildwoods Farm, we have created a rare breed preservation program and animal sanctuary dedicated to raising pure bred chickens allowing these animals to survive for generations. As funds allow, we hope to expand our sanctuary program to include other farm endangered breeds such as pigs, sheep, goats, horses and ducks.
